CONTEXT OF THE MISSION

PADEM launches a new development programme in Kenya, focusing on improving the housing conditions of vulnerable people in two precarious neighbourhoods in Nairobi (Mathare and Kibera) and the rural region of Busia County. This programme comprises 3 projects on housing improvement (relocation within collective housing, renovation of housing, construction of family and collective health facilities and urban facilities) with a community approach with the aim of improving the security, access to employment and the fight against gender-related violence among these populations. Additionally, one of these 3 projects involves the construction of a school. Under this programme, PADEM is seeking an international technical coordinator to support its two local partner organizations, in collaboration with two other PADEM collaborators in Kenya.

CONDITIONS

: VSI (Volunteer International Solidarity) under contract with the SCD (Service de Coopération au Développement, international volunteer sending organization, located in Lyon).

: Monthly allowance of EUR 1,000 (including social insurance by the Caisse des Français de l’Etranger).

: September 2021

: 24 months

MISSION RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

After training about our intervention policies and introduction to our team, you will travel to Nairobi and coordinate PADEM activities in Kenya, in direct cooperation with the local PADEM collaborator.

The International Technical Coordinator will be responsible for the following tasks :

PROFILE

: Ability to apply for a VSI contract.

: Civil Engineer, Architect, and/or Urban Planner

: At least 3 years of experience in the field of building, construction, urban planning (in France or abroad). A first experience of expatriation would be an asset. Having a good knowledge of Africa and an appeal for East Africa.

: Fluent in French / Fluent in English/ Swahili optional.

: Word, Excel, Autocad.

: Nairobi is a capital with significant security challenges. Field visits to the slums will be conducted with local partners to reduce the risks associated with insecurity.
