Know our team

The Communications Unit is Nutrition International’s center for global communications excellence. It is responsible for the delivery and implementation of the strategic vision for corporate communications and branding across the organization. The Unit also champions quality and opportunity globally, working closely with regional teams. Communications Unit members can be found in Nutrition International’s Headquarters in Ottawa, Canada, as well as within our regional offices in Africa and Asia. Currently, Nutrition International is seeking applications for a Communications Officer to be based in Sahel, Senegal.

About you

For the position, your specific qualifications should include a post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, journalism, video production, or a related field. Additionally, it is important to have at least 4 years of experience in communications, social media, writing, storytelling, marketing, or a similar role. Previous experience in the not-for-profit or international development sector would be an advantage.

In this role, strong research and writing skills are essential to excel. Proficiency in desktop publishing software such as InDesign or Photoshop is also required. Your time management and organizational skills should be commendable, as they play a vital role in the position. Moreover, being proficient in MS Office, content management systems, and various social media platforms is expected and will contribute to your success in the role.

Fluency in written and spoken English and French required.

About the role

The Communications Officer will report to the NI Senegal Country Director and work as part of the global External Relations team. The primary responsibility is to support profile-raising and public outreach activities to promote Nutrition International as a leading organization in global nutrition, gender, and health. The focus will be on public relations and social media. Collaborating with communications teams in the Africa Regional Office and Headquarters, the Communications Officer will develop strategies and plans to promote Nutrition International’s work in Senegal and the Sahel regions, including core programming and special projects.

In this role you will:

The Sahel Communications Officer will closely collaborate with the Country Office team to develop social media content showcasing the work of Nutrition International (NI) in the Sahel region.

S/he will also assist the global communications team with media outreach efforts in the CO. Working closely with the communications teams in the Africa Regional Office and Headquarters, the Sahel Communications Officer will support project teams in their communication needs and actively seek opportunities to promote their work. This includes drafting, reviewing, and editing written materials for various communication products, both digital and print, targeting key audiences.

S/he will also contribute to content production, including speechwriting, op-eds, and blog posts. The officer will assist in communication efforts for conferences, webinars, and events, positioning NI Sahel as a thought leader in Sahelian nutrition and health sectors and enhancing visibility at global, regional, and national levels. Furthermore, they will plan and develop social media content strategically to promote NI’s work in the Sahel region and support media outreach efforts in the region.
