CONTEXT
Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is a medical humanitarian organization that provides medical assistance to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from healthcare. MSF operates in over 70 countries around the world, providing medical care, advocacy, and humanitarian assistance to those in need.
MSF OCBA is looking for a Climate Mitigation Technical Lead (m/f/x) based in any of the OCBA hubs, to drive the technical aspects of climate response
Médecins Sans Frontières OCBA recognizes the medical and humanitarian consequences of climate change and environmental degradation, and our contribution towards it. As the climate crisis accelerates, so too does the urgency of our collective engagement as a movement. All corners of the movement have collectively expressed their determination to align on environmental considerations. Associative motions, statements from the executive and individual initiatives, all recognize the need to mobilize and to act.
OCBA is looking to recruit a Climate Mitigation Technical Support on 50% basis to manage the integral implementation of its Climate and Environmental Roadmap (mitigation). This position will work under the OCBA Climate and Environment Focal Point and in close coordination with the OCB CEH Program Manager (who will lead the mutualised mitigation response) and all departments, including MSF Logistics, Supply, HR, Operations, Medical and Finance in addressing the mitigation aspects of OCBA’s climate response.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with the OCB CEH PM, to implement and monitor the Carbon Mitigation response (related to OCBA Footprint reduction).
- Support, the OCB CEH PM to facilitate and Coordinate the Mitigation/Footprint Workstreams.
- Through the MEDOPS, provide technical support to field and technical teams on implementation of our Carbon Roadmap.
- Develop and encourage solid dynamics and synergies with the other MSF sections, entities and other internal stakeholders (such as Climate Smart) initiatives and actions regarding Mitigation.
- Advise the Operations department in adding the climate-environment mitigation ‘lens’ to our view of the way we operate promoting business case studies and other tools to facilitate decision making together with technical referents.
- Working with the OCB CEH PM oversee and Guarantee annual revision of our Carbon footprint baseline calculation engaging with the needed support as required.
- Provide needed Knowledge Management at OCBA level regarding Mitigation / footprint reduction (i.e. SharePoint management, learning materials, etc).
- Together with the Communication department and others document and when needed disseminate and advocate on the initiatives done Oversees the organization of sensitization of MSF OCBA staff on Climate-Environment issues related to mitigation (In collaboration with Learning & Development and Internal Communications)
SELECTION CRITERIA
- At least a first degree in a relevant field (for example environmental engineering) and 2 years of experience in related field of Climate-Environment.
- Experience working in the field for MSF or a humanitarian organisation (in any position) is a strong asset, as a deep understanding of our operational reality is critical to affecting change.
- Experience leading an organization through decarbonization or any climate change related process is required. Professional competences
- Demonstrated experience in calculation of carbon footprints using different methods
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of the climate change stakes for the humanitarian sector
- Pedagogy, training, social communication
- Strong team player with interpersonal skills able to interact with all levels within MSF and externally
- Organisation and anticipation in change management
- Able to work autonomously
- Ability to support teams remotely and apply remote training methods
- Research skills and or experience a strong advantage
- Languages
- English and French are mandatory
- Arabic, Spanish & Portuguese at any level is an asset
CONDITIONS
- Position based in any MSF OCBA Hub (Barcelona, MSF-Spain office delegations, Amman, Bogota, Dakar or Nairobi). Final location will be subject to the employability of the preselected candidate (residency, work permit, etc.).
- Annual gross salary: HQ 3A level + secondary benefits based on MSF OCBA Reward Policy. Subjected to local conditions
- Duration: Part-time 6 months (50%)
- Expected starting date: As soon as possible
