About the role
The Programme Officer will be responsible for managing the daily activities and execution of the Senegal Social Inclusion programme, and all aspects of the project cycle. The Programme Officer will ensure effective planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, financial and asset management, reporting, and documentation is delivered for the project as laid out in the organisation’s policies and procedures.
Further duties and responsibilities include:
- Work with partner organisations to achieve the organisation’s strategic priorities of the prevention of avoidable blindness through both service delivery and advocacy work.
- Lead Sightsavers Social Inclusion interventions.
- Develop and support longer-term relationships with the partners that go beyond the duration of individual projects.
- Support partners in the identification of their own capacity building needs and help facilitate the provision of these needs.
- Promote shared learning and collaboration between partners by facilitating partner networks and meetings.
- Assist project partners in the preparation of budgets.
- Monitor expenditure of project financial resources and liaise with the FSSM/O where necessary.
- Supporting partners to manage all aspects of the project cycle including planning, implementation and monitoring & evaluation.
- Working with partners to identify needs for technical support.
- Participate in all PR activities within the Country including World Sight Day.

Skills and Experience
As the Programme Officer you will have experience, or a qualification, in the field of education and/or social inclusion (with experience or a qualification in social work, gender, disability studies, public health, or international development being an added advantage).
You will also possess:
- Experience in designing, managing and supporting education programs for children with disabilities and programs that facilitate the inclusion of marginalized groups.
- Extensive experience of in programs implementation in developing countries.
- Experience in policy and / or advocacy, particularly with regard to the education of children with disabilities and the rights of people with disabilities.
- Experience in participatory development, including participatory monitoring and evaluation.
- Knowledge of current issues and best practices in education, social inclusion and development.
- Knowledge of international legislation and policies in the field of education, disability and human rights, in particular the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
- Knowledge of local development systems, practices and contexts.
- Good knowledge of the main international networks and organisations working for social inclusion and disability.
- Strong oral and written English and French skills.
- Knowledge of the CBR / WHO matrix.
